Planned by Turkey’s Shia community in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, the center will focus on conducting research studies on the origins of Shia school of thought and the problems Shia minorities are facing in non-Shia countries.
It will be opened in the University of Tunceli in Eastern Anatolia region of Turkey.
According to the dean of the university, the center for Shia studies will function under the humanities section of the university at the faculty of literature.
Speaking at a press conference earlier this week, he said that there were plans to set up Shia studies centers in major universities all over Turkey in the coming years.
Shia Muslims are estimated to make up around 20 percent of the Turkey’s population.
